Creation vs Evolution ♦ Human Evolution
Where do we come from?
A very important topic in the debate between Creation and Evolution is related to human origins. While the Bible teaches that God created initially a man and a woman, fully human and fully capable of thinking, working and living, Evolution tries to uncover evidence of small and gradual changes that have produced humans out of apelike creatures.
The generally accepted view of the evolutionists is that humans and apes evolved from a common ancestor which now is extinct. So, they are studying human fossils and ape fossils, in order to find any anatomical feature that can be considered as intermediate. When ape fossils seem to have such features, they are called “hominids” and considered ancestral to humans. Even though the apes that live today share many common features with humans, they are not called “hominids” because they did not evolve into humans, and instead they are called “hominoids”.
The oldest caveman fossils were found in the Republic of Georgia and called "homo erectus". They were found in the lowest levels, which are associated with a period in time called “Lower Pleistocene”. Then, upper layers associated with the so-called “Middle Pleistocene” reveal fossils of homo erectus spread all over Europe, Asia and Africa. Even though the fossils were named differently, depending on their location, an interesting fact is that the fossils and the stone tools that once belonged to them, are very similar. Those people were characterized by receding foreheads, large brow ridges and small chins.
In the upper layers, associated with a period called “Upper Pleistocene”, other varieties are found in the human fossil record, with different physical features. The first fossils of Neanderthals belong to Europe, while in Asia the fossils generally have features similar to homo erectus and also another variety called “Denisovan”. In Africa was found a variation similar to modern people, with high foreheads and protruding chins and on Flores island (Indonesia) were found fossils of another variety called “Homo floresiensis” or simply “hobbits”, because they were only 1m tall.
In the topmost layers, no fossils of homo erectus, Neanderthal or homo floresiensis were ever found.
Are these hominids really human ancestors? If we compare them with modern humans, do we find real evidence for evolution? Well, the answer is NO. Even homo erectus fossils, which are considered to be the oldest, are actually fully human. They are only extinct varieties of humankind.
