Living fossils
Evolution Theory is based on a principle saying that living organisms are affected by slow processes, capable of modifying existing species and to create new ones. This is like an unseen law that governs our world. Everything we see today is a result of evolution and all current species have evolved from other species that lived long ago. So, what is very clear for evolutionists is that organisms do evolve during time into other organisms. And this assumption is widely emphasized as proved by the fossil record.
But still, the fossil record tells another story…
In the past decades, a lot of “living fossils” were discovered …. living today among us, with the same characteristics of their fossils. A “living fossil” is a plant or animal that was known only by its fossils, considered extinct a long time ago, but found alive today, with the same main characteristics as those displayed by the fossilized specimens. Few people know that these findings are not “one or two” but actually thousands!
From this long list of animals and plants that today look the same as their corresponding fossils, here is a list with only a few of them:
Animals: Polistes wasp, Coelacanth fish, Brachiopod Lingula, Chambered Nautilus, Sea mussel Mytilus, Horseshoe crab Limulus, Tuatara lizard (Sphenodon), Harpactocarcinus punetulatus crab, Gromia sphaerica, Rodent, Busycon Contrarium, Pleurotomaria shell, Protoanguilla palau, Antrimpos - Penaeus, Syncarid crustacean
Plants: Wollemi pine tree, Ginkgo Biloba, Redwood Sequoia, Horsetails Equisetum, Maple leaf, Anthedon, Comptonia peregrina
Because of copyright issues, the photos of these specimens were not included in this page, but it is very simple to search on the Internet and find a lot of pictures displaying those plants and animals alive and also fossilized.
How is it possible for these plants and animals to be found essentially unchanged from the way they appear in the fossil record? Why did the slow process of evolution somehow “left them behind” without change? Well, it is very hard for evolutionists to explain this….
But in the creationist view, this evidence fits exactly where it should. The Flood in Noah's time has caused millions and millions of organisms to die quickly in very special conditions, and their remains, imprints or footprints are caught in the sedimentary layers. But all the animals that were on the Ark have survived and after the Flood they have spread out and filled the Earth with animals of each kind. And that didn’t happen millions of years ago, but actually only a few thousands years ago. So, it is no wonder why we see today animals in the exact shape with those that have died in the Flood.
