Fossilized Footprints

The presence of fossilized footprints in the fossil record is hard to explain. It is clear that they claim a very short time to form, because footprints are washed by water or obliterated by winds. Still, a few thousands dinosaur footprints were uncovered, most of them aligned in long trackways.

They can be found in a particular rock called dolomite, which is a carbonate rock similar to limestone. This type of rock can be formed today only in small quantities and in extreme environments. In order to build large quantities of dolomite, an ocean with unusual chemical conditions is needed. That is why it is very hard to explain how these footprints could have been made, because dinosaurs couldn’t walk on the ocean floor and even if they could, their footprints would have been washed quickly.

While evolutionists can hardly explain the formation of such big dolomite deposits and also how the footprints have escaped from obliteration, the creationists find the answer in the special conditions that were during the Flood. At that time, there were very complex processes that favored the creation of dolomite layers and the moving of tectonic plates could have raised the sea floor levels and temporarily exposed dolomite layers for the dinosaurs that were fleeing to hide from the Flood disaster.

Around the world there are many dinosaur tracks which are usually developed in straight lines on flat strata. One notable finding is the site at Lark Quarry in Queensland - Australia, named “Dinosaur Stampede” where about 150 different kinds of dinosaurs seem to flee in the same direction. Also it is worth mentioning “Dinosaur Freeway” in Colorado. Because predator footprints are found among vegetarian dinosaur footprints, the most common interpretation of the evolutionists is that the animals were fleeing from a predator. But even though this interpretation is indeed possible, it is also possible that all of the animals, vegetarian and predators, were fleeing from a catastrophe that was threatening their lives. This is a very possible scenario in the Flood, because of the tremendous processes that were present at that time.

The fact that the dinosaurs were actually fleeing to escape from a disaster that they had to face, is supported by the evidence we have in the fossil record. First of all, dinosaur fossils are found in higher layers than those of the footprints, which is consistent with biblical Flood, because the dinosaurs had the ability to run and escape for a while by climbing to higher land. Then, the fact that the tracks are in straight lines also represents a proof that they were fleeing, because otherwise a common animal pathway would not include such straight paths. Also, the fact that the pathways are almost completely missing very young dinosaur tracks, is another confirmation for the fleeing. Most probably, the dinosaurs left behind their offspring in the desperate survival run.

So, while evolutionists struggle to explain the formation of the dolomite layers and the fossilized tracks, the creationists find in the Flood the right conditions that could have created these structures.
