The Word of God ♦ Jesus resurrection

False claims

The resurrection of Jesus is an historical event. Not even the enemies of Jesus could hide the evidence that proves it. But because people are not willing to accept it, they try to deny it by false explanations.

The earliest claim against Jesus' resurrection was invented by the high priests who sentenced him to death. The testimony of the soldiers that were guarding the tomb was so strong, that they clearly understood that Jesus rose from the dead. But still, the high priests tried to hide this by paying the soldiers to spread a lie and say that the disciples stole the body while they were all asleep.

Even if this claim fails can be easily debunked, it seems that it was widely spread during the first century and even Caesar had to address it. Nazareth inscription contains a decree from Caesar against people who steal bodies from tombs.

Today, people still try to find explanations that could avoid the real fact of the resurrection. Some suggest that Jesus didn’t actually die, but only fainted on the cross. Later he woke up in the grave, removed the stone at the entrance, and fled. Others suggest that those who saw the risen Jesus, had a kind of hallucination and did not see a real resurrected body.

All of these theories and others like them, fail to offer a real alternative for the resurrection. Jesus suffered terribly. He was brutally beaten and hung on a cross. The injuries he suffered can hardly be imagined. He died and was placed in a grave, being wrapped in cloth according to the customs of the time. His tomb was sealed and guarded by Roman soldiers. The possibility for someone to steal the body or for someone to escape from a place like that is zero.

Jesus is risen!
