Prophecies about Jesus
The Old Testament contains more than 300 prophecies about the Messiah, all fulfilled in Jesus Christ. The first prophecy was spoken by God in the garden of Eden, in front of the first two people, Adam and Eve, and in front of the serpent who represents the devil. It was the announcement of the future coming of the “seed of the woman” that will totally defeat the devil.
Later, when God sent prophets to Israel, his people, many details about the coming Messiah were recorded. He will be the Son of God, and will come from the lineage of Abraham, Isaak, Jacob, Judah and later king David. He will be born in Bethlehem, from a virgin.
Many of the details around his ministry in Israel were also prophesied long before the coming of Jesus. He will teach God’s word like no one else, he will judge his people, he will have a strong dedication to God’s will and the House of the Lord and He will perform a lot of miracles.
Also incredible details surrounding his death were precisely predicted long before. He should enter Jerusalem riding a donkey. He will be betrayed by one of his friends and sold for 30 silver coins. Those coins will be thrown in the Temple later and used to buy the potter’s field. He will be accused by false witnesses but he will shut up in front of them without defending himself. He will be pierced and crushed, cursed, kicked and spitted. He will be crucified but no even one bone will be broken apart. His clothes will be shared by those who kill him and dice will be thrown for winning his shirt. The darkness that came upon the country when he died, the burial in the grave of a rich man and the resurrection on the third day were also prophesied long before the birth of Jesus Christ.
These are only a few from all the prophecies that were made about Jesus. Their fulfillment was exact and proves that the Bible was inspired by God, and Jesus is the Son of God. He came to Earth to defeat the devil and by his death and resurrection to open a way of salvation for all who repent and trust in him!
