What the Bible says ♦ Salvation
Salvation from what?
“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” (Romans 1:18-20, NIV)
The wrath of God is unleashed against anything that defies his authority. He is God, and his words need to be followed. Any act of disobedience is called sin, and although it may seem for us that some sins are bigger than others, for God all the sins are bad and they cause the wrath of God to be revealed.
The wrath of God is unleashed in mainly two ways. First of all, it slowly reveals itself by leaving people to taste the consequences of their own sinful decisions. Sin has a lot of consequences, and they can be seen in multiple domains, like loss of health, loss of human trust, loss in possessions and many others.
But in the second place, the wrath of God will be revealed violently at the end of times, when the Great Judgement will come. At that time, all who died without having their sins washed in the blood of Jesus Christ by repentance, will be thrown into hell where they will suffer for eternity. This is the biggest consequence of sin!
So, salvation means to be saved from the unleashing of the wrath of God. People have sinned against him, and that is why his wrath will be unleashed against them. But for all those that repent from their sins while they are still alive on Earth, the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross can cleanse their sins and it is able to restore the relation with God and escape from the unleashing of the wrath of God. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23, NIV)
