Resurrection - fact not fiction
Death is something common to our existence. Nobody doubts death because we can see it around us and all the cemeteries prove it.
But is it possible for someone that died, to rise from the dead and come back to life? We have all heard about resurrection, but not all of us accept that such a thing can really occur. For most people, resurrection is only a myth. And this is because we can’t see resurrection occurring today. Contrary to death, resurrection is not a common daily reality. We have heard about it only from writings that we consider to be mythological. But why do we consider resurrection to be mythological? The only reason is that we don’t see it happening today.
In the Bible we have a few records of people that were risen from death. The most important of all is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is completely different from all other resurrections, because of the nature of the resurrected body. While all other resurrections brought people to life but eventually they have died again, Jesus Christ rose from the dead with an eternal body. Jesus Christ rose from the dead, and this proves that everything He said is true. His resurrection confirms that He is what He claimed to be: the Son of God!
Even Claudius Caesar confirms indirectly the resurrection of Jesus. The Nazareth Inscription found in 1878 contains a royal decree against those that steal bodies from tombs with sepulcher sealing stones. We know that thieves are interested in finding and stealing riches, not dead bodies. Also we know that tombs with sepulcher sealing stones were specific to Israel in the first century. We also know from the Bible that the high priests who murdered Jesus, tried to cover up the resurrection by issuing a lie which was saying that the disciples of Jesus had stolen the body of Jesus while the soldiers guarding the tomb were sleeping. The high priests bribed the soldiers to spread this lie, and the issue became so important in the following years that even Caesar had to address it.
